FREE The Dream
Words and music by Fred Stawitz.
This beautiful anthem features the powerfully melodic voices of Kathryn Riggins and Cecilia Duarte in praise of the important journeys of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Mexican-American labor organizer César Chávez. Reflective of the past yet strongly focused on the future, FREE The Dream issues a call to action for social and economic equality in our time.
Kathryn Riggins, a popular gospel singer, directs the Women's Choir at the Williams Temple Church of God in Christ, has taught at the National Gospel Music Workshop of America's Women of Worship, and was the featured actress in the gospel stage play A Family Affair performed at the prestigious Jones Hall in Houston.
Cecilia Duarte, a talented mezzosoprano from Mexico, has sung with the Houston Grand Opera, performed in the Festival de Música Barroca (San Miguel de Allende, Mexico), and played the leading role in the first Mariachi Opera: Renata - Cruzar la Cara de la Luna (To Cross the Face of the Moon) staged at Théâtre du Châtelet (Paris, France).
Ken Taylor of Global Sound Productions provided orchestral arrangements and full production services for the recording of FREE The Dream!
LYRICS
Free the Dream for every man and woman in this land. Free the Dream that we can walk together hand–in–hand. Free the Dream we climb the mountain and claim the Promised Land. Free the Dream, free this Dream in our time!
Free the Dream for which Dr. Martin Luther King lived and died. Free the Dream that George Wallace finally realized. Free the Dream we live together and hold our heads up high. Free the Dream, free this Dream in our time!
Free the Dream for which César Chávez worked the fields. Free the Dream for every hungry mouth there is a meal. Free the Dream we help our neighbor with an open heart for all. Free the Dream, free this Dream in our time!
Free the Dream! Free the Dream! And though our dream was shackled, we held it in our hearts Knowing that one day, we could break the chains apart, and Free the Dream, free the Dream, free the Dream, free the Dream. Together, we can free this Dream!
Free the Dream for every man and woman in this land. Free the Dream so we can walk together hand–in–hand. Free the Dream we climb the mountain and soar like an eagle high On our Dream, free the Dream in our time! Free the Dream, free this Dream in our time!
